More ACB 11 Results and Reactions

Mafra picked up a decision.
Hashimoto did work and was looking to force the pass via a lapel feed step over choke but to no avail. He did score the back and was clearly working to finish the whole match but settled for a decision.
Chantre was Chantre and did a lot of stalling from top and 50/50 type stuff to win a boring decision.
Doederlein surprisingly didn't finish Kim Terra and won a decision.
Moku hands Magalhaes a boring add loss via ref decision.
Carvalho picked up a quick reverse toe
Hold type grip.
AJ Sousa was putting in work on Maidana with takedowns, guard passes, mount and submission attempts but after nearly two hours in and a ton of decisions and having read nearly all the other matches went to decision I stopped watching.

It's tough to blame the format or the athletes in that when there's a minute left and you're up on points or down, you start mentally preparing for the next round. Add to that there's no guard pulling in the first minute and you're basically saying okay, if no takedowns you have 4 minutes left to work against S top tier black belt. I dunno what the solution is but 13 decisions and 2 submissions is a tough event to sit through man.

ACB JJ 11 Results - Kinda

tuned in at about the 8th or 9th match.
Watched Erberth and Honorio sorta fight for takedowns for 15 mins. Saw a quick toehold with an interesting grip, then fell asleep and woke up to see Najmi play a very "tactical" match and lose for it.
Mauro tried to hype up the final as the fight of the night et cetera, but for it being their only match for the night, Ramos and Najmi were not ferociously or even steadily active. Ramos had a solid flying armbar attempt that may have cracked Najmi a bit and influenced the latter half of the match.
Najmi threatened a flying triangle off a single leg attempt by Ramos to which Ramos walked almost to the boundary but not quite then got out, and Najmi seemed content to let Ramos be the aggressor on takedowns and look to counter but with 5 min rounds it was a flawed gameplan and rightfully, IMHO, Ramos got the nod.
Events like this are tough for me these days, there are good moments, but efen with more stern penalty usage by refs (Thank God) there is considerable downtime mid match with neither guy really committing to much offense. I dunno, it had plenty of professionals, br the action was lacking quite a bit in the matches I saw. The event and the production and the talent could not honesty be any more well executed yet the athletes themselves are contributing to some egregiously boring matches. It's proof yet again that no matter the format, competitors strategically make choices that are less than aesthetically pleasing to the audience.

Reminder ACB 11 Card - This Weekend - Picks and Thoughts

Yo, this is coming off the heels of easily the most ridiculous Gi professional
non IBJJF event that was ACB 10.

Some quick picks, Najmi ( beat Ramos nogi last time around if I'm Not mistaken), Sousa, Claudio looked flat against Gaudio who used the wrestling and physicality to kinda beast on past Calasans. Some losses at the world's to Arges and this last loss to Gaudio have me finding a hard time feeling some doubt about Calasans, but I expect his gamesmanship is enough to put him past Cabral who hasn't wowed me in his time in Copa Podio nor ACB. Langhi is gonna be a tad bigger than Andre and is also a tad more comfortable on top passing (arguable). I think Langhi is a bit stronger and bigger of frame at this weight and will have just enough size advantage to grind brought the round format to a win.
I don't care who Erberth faces or if he wins, he just irks me and his ability to piss of Bernardo Faria was pretty much the end of my keeping even a passing interest in him as a competitor. Frazatto has been doing more Gi than ever since his mma career has either ended or is winding down. He'd be world champ if he hadn't  peaked during the Cobrinah era. As Rafa is gone, and Conrinha is probs going to retire soon (unless his supplements keep him unbelievably young for a bit longer ;) I still feel Frazatto could make a run at a world title, but maybe that's overly optimistic. I got to see him at the NY Open last summer and face Gianni Grippo. For the bottom end of the card I've got Hashimoto winning, Doederlein def winning, and Samir winning and ugly stalling  match against Laercio. Laercio is another guy I think is insanely good but couldn't get the top 1-3 guys in his weight class when he was at his peak. I'd actually really like to see him vs Bruno Frazatto or Hashimoto. Tough to pick between Mafra and Caporal, but I'll go with Caporal as I've seen him a bit more in the Gi in the past year

Bellator Signs Jon Fitch (PFL death knell looming?)

I'm starting to wonder if the world of MMa can stand a third major mma organization. American MMA has the UFC and Bellator. Europe and Japan have a couple major players. That being said, can te PFL succeed as an Engliah speaking broadcast without the key names occupied with the UFC and Bellator? I'm always one to say more options are good for fighters as they can not correctly collectively bargain and are treated as I-9 Independent contractors (arguably honest to be frank). At any rate, I see the PFL format folding Bc there's already times I split my Fri/Sat between the B squad Bellator/Freakshow cards and a UFC death of PPV's, Fight Nights, and Fox broadcasts. We'll see. I hate to be negative nancy but I just honestly have as much mma programming as I desire to follow at this point. I wish the PFL luck but it's a tough market to crack when your format is basically the only selling point.
