A slow-ish weekend in the MMA world with no UFC taking place.
We do have a total joke of a main card/Heavyweight title fight coming up at UFC 160, though. I call it a joke b/c Cain absolutely demolished Bigfoot Silva from bell to bell the last time they fought (it literally began with the first kick Silva threw, which Cain caught, put Silva on his back, cut him open and pounded him mercilessly until the fight ended. Silva was literally never in the fight other than as a punching bag.
Take note
And if you missed it, MMAJunkie.com has a replay/stream of the Cage Warriors 54 event from Saturday at 2pm today: Click HERE for an event recap.
UFC on FOX 8: July 27th Card set:
"MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)
- Demetrious Johnson vs. John Moraga - for UFC flyweight title (John who?)
- Jake Ellenberger vs. Rory MacDonald
- Robbie Lawler vs. Tarec Saffiedine (Stand n' Bang alert)
- Liz Carmouche vs. Miesha Tate (Yaaaaay!)
- Mac Danzig vs. Melvin Guillard (Guillard with his pending warrants/assault charges still has a job, but Mitrione had his balls clipped for verbal statements.)
- Danny Castillo vs. Bobby Green
- Germaine de Randamie vs. Julie Kedzie (who?)
- Michael Chiesa vs. Reza Madadi (TUF winner versus that guy who did surprisingly well in his UFC in Sweden debut)
- Yves Edwards vs. Spencer Fisher (loser leaves town?)
- Matt Mitrione vs. Brendan Schaub (how quickly you can be back in the UFC's good graces)
- Ed Herman vs. Trevor Smith (coming off a sub to Jacare....against an unknown)
- Aaron Riley vs. Justin Salas" (Riley's been around forever. He's a good litmus test for younger UFC guys, new to the promotion).
Yet, it was a busy weekend for Grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the Copa Podio and Dallas Open taking place.
Copa Podio results as of 530pm yesterday (2 super fights and grand prix decided)
That being said, if you hunger for more news, check out BJJNews.com. Other than Graciemag, that's the other site I hit first thing in my office on Monday morning in search of grappling-related news.
